all about michael adams

who is michael?

Hello, my name is Michael Adams. I'm 20, go to the University of Canterbury and study electrical engineering).

my dreams

Well we all have dreams... be weird if we didn't. So what are mine?

Well, firstly I'd like to have a loving girlfriend. So far this has eluded me.

Secondly, I'd like to make a difference to everyday people's lives one day. Invent something(s) that make people happy to use them. Something like the world's first useable cellphone, or video recorder. Basically technology that makes people happy.

Thirdly I'd like to have enough money to get by confortably on. Not filthy rich, but enough that I could buy a new toy (ie, latest bit of Apple kit) without having to empty the piggy-bank!

I want to live in a cool city... Wellington would be my choice for NZ. Have only ever been to Sydney and Melbourne out side of NZ, but I enjoyed it there, though they are both very big! Melbourne has the Puffing Billy though, so I prefer that one more!

my personality

A little bit about my personality, cos I know you all want to know!

I'm modest. Possibly a little too so? I prefer asking other people how they went in exams or whatever than going and blowing my own trumpet.

Apparently I'm an introvert, and I know this use to be the case, but I'm not so sure anymore. I feel a more open, more confident, less shy. Oh, that's another thing... I use to be quite shy, and I'm still a little bit, but not nearly so much so.

Oh and if there's one thing that uni has taught me, it's how to chill out. How to look at the big picture and realise that even though it may be a 50% exam, it isn't the end of the world! (I missed a 40% final exam last year and still passed the course!!)

favourite music

Boy oh boy... what a toughy! I like all sorts of music. Anything that isn't mainstream. So I can't stand anything on 92MoreFm and the like. So what do I like?

Classical: yep, I like classical music. But only some kinds. I love some Philip Glass. And I really like Adagio and Albinoni... basically really powerful strings and organ music. Powerful and emotional is the key.

Rock and Roll: no, not rock. i'm taking bout Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Buddy Holly. Why? Cos it's happy bouncy music that has awesome melodies to it. Early rock and roll is supposedly very similar blues and jazz, which I'm also a great fan of.

House: Jazz meets elecctronica... it's gotta be good. I like most electronic music, but house would have to be my favourite. Good and not too heavy, quite often with killer melodies too.

Drum & Bass: the originial Bad Boy of electronica. I enjoy anything from the light floating tunes of LTJ Bukem right the way down to hard jungle from Goldie, Ed Rush & Optical and the like. Also a huge fan of Concord Dawn (mainly jungle) and more than partial to a little Pacific Heights (very ambient). Chch has an awesome DnB scene! It is a very good place to be.

Electronica: Not trance or techno, but more ambient type music. Think Aphex Twin. Think Autechre. Some of Aphex's work is just legendary... things like ICCT Hedral (my all time favourite piece of music) and other's like Acrid Avid Jam Shred (!) which is just plain cool. And if you do drugs, well, Aphex Twin takes on a whole new depth!

hobbies

Art, design, that kind of thing. I love fine design (I've been known to pick up leaflets just cos they look cool). I like photography too, though don't get round to doing much of that.

Computers and their like are a big part of my life. Self confessed geek (not to be confused with nerd) who likes the challenge of getting things to work, or do things they shouldn't, or just coding up a storm!

Exploring, tramping etc. I don't enjoy the tramping, but it is fun to get away for a weekend and conquer what can only be called an Impossible Mountain. And I love the outdoors

Electronics. I've always been a bit of a hacker, tinkerer and like playing with electronics. Though it can be annoying when things don't work!
